The Ramsey County Library Friends began a partnership in 2010 with several community agencies to help build the literacy skills of underserved children living in Ramsey County. Friends volunteers work with K-5 children to promote a love of reading, assist with homework, and boost the self-esteem of beginning and struggling readers.
We are currently seeking volunteers to be Reading Friends in the 2023-2024 school year. The need, beginning in September, is for volunteers to serve in the New Brighton area working one-on-one with K-5 children on reading after school on Thursday afternoons. No prior experience is necessary. Your level of commitment is flexible – you can volunteer every week or just weeks that fit into your schedule.
A free and confidential background check is required to join the Reading Friends Literacy Program. Background checks can be completed this summer in preparation for the new school year. For more information about the program, the volunteer schedule, and the volunteer application process, please contact program manager Caitlin Carroll at ccarroll@rclfriends.org or 651-724-6127.
