What Your Membership Funds
With the donations from our 800+ members, the Friends provide a grant of at least $130,000 to the Ramsey County Library (RCL) every year. These funds support:
Collections: Materials to fulfill patron requests, replace old editions of standard titles, add new titles, and maintain collections in print and electronic formats.
Summer Reading Program for Children and Teens: A popular program that deepens engagement and encourages literacy while school is out of session.
Children’s Programming: A huge variety of interactive activities including in-person programming, fun projects, and take-home kits that all promote literacy and school readiness and success.
Teen Programming: Positive learning experiences, after school resources, and dynamic interest-based programming that enable teens to gain social and workforce skills, engage in critical thinking, and create meaningful connections.
Adult Programming: Educational skill building, culture and history, community well-being, digital literacy, and maker class opportunities that support the vitality, growth, and development of our adult communities.
Family Programming: Services, support, engagements, and literacy activities that involve whole families.

In addition to the annual grant to RCL, your funding helps the Friends strengthen the Library through advocacy, awareness-building, volunteer work, used bookstores and book sales, and other support for Library programs and initiatives.

In 2024, items circulated over 3 million times, and more than 62,500 people attended Library programs. Funding from Friends members like you helps keep collections current and programs free, relevant, and accessible to all community members.
County funding covers Library basics. Since 1979, the Friends’ annual grant has offered supplemental funding. Your ongoing support gives the Library a reliable, flexible source of funding it can count on—so it can prepare for the future with certainty and respond to community needs with agility.
